Your Story Matters, Teresa!

Why did you join Oregon CrossFit?
In my life exercise has been the only constant. I spend my summers hiking and my winters snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Weightlifting, however, has never been a constant. That is, until I joined CrossFit. I joined CrossFit about five years ago because I met an army vet on a plane who told me that his wife did CrossFit and that “if she were a cat, she could jump over a building!” He also told me that she helped get him in shape for his deployment. He had me at the word, “cat.” I joined CrossFit the following week and I am really glad I did. I am really amazed at what a difference the CrossFit training has on the level of my overall fitness.
What's been your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest athletic accomplishment at Oregon CrossFit has been rowing a solo marathon (42,195 meters on a rower) during the Concept2 Holiday Challenge, where I accumulated over 240,000 meters. To start with, I thought that goal was impossible for me to accomplish. Last year, I really struggled to finish the challenge with 100,000 meters. But slowly and steadily, workout after workout, I built up to the Marathon and really enjoy the feeling of having accomplished this goal.
What are you working on now?
I plan to focus more on weightlifting. It would be nice to deadlift twice my bodyweight. Getting to a 200lb deadlift is a very big deal for me. I look forward to working toward this goal.
What motivates you to continue training at Oregon CrossFit?
Have you ever seen that television commercial where there is a middle aged man in the car wondering if he is too old to learn how to skateboard. Well, I still think that I can learn how to do anything. Each day that I show up to CrossFit, I feel like a 5th grader that has just showed up to PE class and each day, I learn something new.
